Interior Design 101: An Introduction

Find inspiration.
Buy books or magazines. Look around the Internet. There’s millions of pictures out there just waiting to inspire you. It doesn’t just have to be photos of entire rooms; you could also draw inspiration from colors, fabrics, plants, furniture, and many more. You’ll discover and learn more about different styles that will best suit your taste or personality. There’s no fun or challenge in just copying a look! Create your own!

Wait and see.
We know you’re excited to start on a new project, but you also shouldn’t rush into it too quickly, especially if you’ve just moved into a new home. Now that you are actively browsing for ideas, take the time to filter things out to really find out what you want. Ask yourself, “If I paint my room this color, would I still like it after n months?”¬†Redecorating doesn’t always come cheap, so be careful of spur-of-the-moment decisions!

Fashion?
You’ll be surprised at just how many interior designers look to trends for inspiration. (Maybe that’s why some people fashion clothes out of curtains?) But clothing and home design have a lot more in common than you think: patterns, silhouettes, you name it. You can draw inspiration from different colors and fabrics that you can apply in a room.
